New Trailer | Let me In

Tomas Alfredson’s Swedish vampire film Let the Right One In, about a boy who falls in love with a “12 year old” vampire was one of the best of 2008. Think of the film as the Anti-Twilight. It quickly gathered a cult following who then became outraged when it was announced that Colverfield director Matt Reeves was helming an American remake entitled Let Me In. And rightfully so. One of my biggest film pet peeves is US audiences being turned off by subtitles saying things like, “I don’t want to read a movie.”

But I digress, this International Trailer for Let Me In was just released and it looks…like the exact same movie. Which again has me asking what is the point? However, if the story reaches more people because of the remake, I suppose that is a good thing. Maybe it will entice those same people to seek out the original. Watch the trailer below. The movie is released October 1st.

Here’s the trailer for the original for those wanting to compare.

I don’t understand why frenetic trailers are released for slower paced films. I know it’s just studio marketing bullshit, but it feels like they’re intentionally decieving potential viewers which could end up hurting the film. Some dumbass sees this trailer, gets stoked for a different type of film, sees it, hates it, then tells his jack-off buddies and anyone else who’ll listen that it sucked. They tell their jack-off friends, word spreads on the net, etc, etc. Sorry for all the hate venting.

  • Mr. Jason:

That is a good point and the same thing that came to my mind as I watched the trailer. They are marketing this film as if it is a Platinum Dunes film instead of what it actually is. This will result in bad word of mouth all around. That said, the original is brillant.

If it’s not broke don’t fix it, I wish Hollywood could just leave shit alone. A great film is a great film no matter what language it is in.

  • Upsidedownface:

What if a film was entirely in pig latin…?

  • Trevor O:

Esyay, as long as it was still translated.

    He Mr. Will,
Well said points. The original was good, so why mess with it? The remake seems to have at least one plus over the original though: production value (from an obviously bigger budget). But, I would bet the original is a lot grittier and more realistic than the over-the-top Hollywood version. We shall see…

  • Mr. Will:

Yeah, it’s hard from the trailer what type of remake we are going to see in theaters. I’m sure it will be dumbed down in some way.
