When the dust settles the winner of best 2010 action team-up film is…

Hollywood loves to shell out similar films in a given year, (Dante’s Peak and Volcano, Deep Impact and Armageddon) and 2010 is no exception. This year the old school action team-up made a comeback with movies like, The Losers, The A-Team, and The Expendables with varying results. So, I thought it would be in fitting with the spirit of those films to pit them against one another, and see which one comes out on top. Here are the 2010 action team-up awards. Steroids are encouraged.

[Possible Spoilers below]
Best Team leader: Liam Nesson as Hannibal in The A-Team.

Who would you follow?

Jeffrey Dean Morgan seemed bored to tears in The Losers, and Sly may have the most experience, but great acting will always win out. Here’s hoping Liam continues to take action roles.

Best Tech support “aka” Geeky Sidekick: Sharlto Copley as Murdock in The A-Team.

Chris Evans was one of the only good things about the mess that was The Losers, but the award must go to Sharlto for bringing that clinically insane brand of fun to his role.

Best female lead: Zoe Saldana in The Losers.

Sladana continues to prove herself.

After Star Trek and Avatar I would follow Ms. Sladana anywhere.

Best Bad Guy “aka” The Suit: Eric Roberts in The Expendables.

Aspiring villains pay attention.

Sometimes experience does count. Eric Roberts is one of those clutch actors who always turns in a effective performance. His villainous role in Sylvester Stallone’s flick puts The Losers Jason Patric and The A-Teams Patrick Wilson to shame.

Best Traitor: Dolph Lundgren in The Expendables.

When The Losers Idris Elba when turncoat I nearly laughed at how poorly it was handled. Not to mention the fact that no audience wants to see a key team member turn. However, Lundgren’s arc in the The Expendables just seemed to work. Who doesn’t buy that crazy Swed as a drug addict? Now, let’s hang a pirate.

Best Henchman: The Expendables.

With guys like Steve Austin and Brit Gary Daniels (who kinda reminded me of the Aussie villian in Commando) how can the faceless henchmen in the other films stand a chance?

Best explosions: The Expendables.

The ending action sequence in this film nearly sent me to a better place, my ears are still ringing.

Coolest Gun: Terry Crews’ exploding rounds/meat grinder in The Expendables.

Brings back memories of Jesse Ventura’s mini gun in Predator. Good for a BBQ.

Best action sequence: Ending raid, The Expendables.

I could take em.

Again, this scene made my chest bump. Every actor had their moment as well.

Worst action sequence: Anything in The Losers.

Best opening: The A-Team, helicopter chase.

Sets the tone for the shear balls to the wall ridiculousness that was the action in this movie. Pure summer fun.

Best Team Chemistry: The A-Team

80s tastic

The Expendables wasn’t too far behind The A-Team and deserves some credit for just getting those egos in one room. However, the casting in The A-Team is pitch perfect.

Worst acting by someone without a professional fighting background: Jason Patric The Losers.

Misguided Jason Patric.

Wayyyy over the top. I expect a little more from Patric, although the script didn’t help matters.

Worst tacked-on side/backstory: BA’s non-violence policy in The A-Team.

Nobody wants to see you struggle with your ideals. Just kill some people.

Most annoying use of quick “action” editing: The Losers

Frezze framing, ramping, and slow motion isn’t cool, it’s annoying. It’s simple, just make the action coherent.

Best Use of Arnold Schwarzenegger: The Expendables

Sequel Please.

Ok, so this one isn’t excatly fair, but the other two film’s casting directors should’ve at least made a phone call to the Governors Office out of respect.

Best action Team-Up of 2010: The Expendables

While The A-Team hit the nail on the head for pure summer entertainment, Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables just feels like more of an event. Plus, the action really does hearken back to another era while not relying on CGI. See them both and stay from The Losers for as long as humaly possible.
