Comic Con Round Up | News & Trailers

Dr. McCoy himself Karl Urban has been confirmed to play Judge Dredd in an upcoming reboot. I know next to nothing about this character, but Urban is a fantastic actor and it will be great to see in him a lead role, sort of:

If anyone is familiar with Dredd, over the years there are many times when Dredd removes his helmet but you never fully see his face and that was construct by the creator, Mr. Wagner. He represents that faceless system of justice and law. I will say this, hypothetically if I went to a movie that was called “Judge Dredd” and the character or the actor who played Judge Dredd took the helmet and I would see his full face and features I would puke in my popcorn because that’s not Dredd. He’s mysterious and enigmatic. We’re going to do it right.

Here’s the trailer for Dexter season 5. I can’t wait! Read the rest of this entry »

Geek Round Up | 300 prequel

March of 2007 was taken by storm by what many perceived as an epic adaptation of the famous Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name, 300.   With boasting an opening weekend in the top 50 largest in box office history and bringing in over $200 million to date despite its mixed critical consensus, it is no wonder a follow up is in the works.  I was just surprised it has taken this long to begin…

Geek Round Up| The Riddler in Batman 3, Thor and Captain America Posters, and Cult Art

???

A “reliable source” from website www.firstshowing.net has gotten it’s hands on a casting grid for Batman 3 indicating that The Riddler is the primary villain in the film. A casting grid is basically a chart for agents and studios to keep them abreast of what roles need to be cast in said film. The site is also claiming that the chart puts actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the top spot for the role. The casting could be feasible considering Levitt’s recent work with Nolan in Inception, and I’d be down with him playing the part as he’s a fantastic young actor. However, I’m still holding out hope that Nolan and his brother, Batman 3 screenwriter Jonathan Nolan, will go with a villain we haven’t seen before. This would be more in line with every statement all the creators have made regarding the 3rd film in the series. Read the rest of this entry »

This is my first “Geek Round Up”…as it’s been the first time I’ve been crapping my pants about something as “geeky” as this. The Blu-Ray versions of the Alien Quadrilogy is no secret, but recently there’s been some updates on what exactly is going to be included on the discs. I have the Alien/Predator nuts over at Alien Experience to thank for the info.

When the word broke that Ryan Reynolds‘ suit in Martin Campbell’s Green Lantern would be totally CGI, feelings were mixed in the fan community. After all practical effects always seem to feel more real. However, after seeing the first image of Reynolds in the suit below I must say that I’m warming to the idea. Read the rest of this entry »

2oth Century Fox has just announced the date in which the extended version of Avatar will hit theaters and IMAX once again. For a fan of the film who hasn’t seen the picture since December this is extremely exciting. My policy has been that a film like Avatar is meant to be experienced on the biggest screen possible. So, until my home theater catches up to the tech in cinemas I’ll be waiting for events like this one: Read the rest of this entry »

As we discussed on the latest episode of the podcast the choices for the new Peter Parker in the Marc Webb directed Spider-man reboot have been less than interesting. It seems as if the studio was aiming to excite the least amount of people possible with picks like Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman and others. Well, today it was announced that the American born, yet British raised actor Andrew Garfield is Sony’s choice for the webbed wonder. Read the rest of this entry »

Short films are underrated and if Pixar has taught us anything its that shorts in front of features can be both profitable for studios and fun for audiences. Well, in an effort to expose movie-goers to lesser known characters of the now Disney owned Marvel universe the studio is planning to produce 10 minute films highlighting minor heroes. For a geek who doesn’t know much about the Marvel world I think is a great idea that doesn’t require much risk for the stuido. Read the rest of this entry »

Now here’s some news that really gets me excited. THR reported that Warner Bros and DC are finally gearing up some of their second tier characters for big screen debuts. First up, Warner chairman Barry Meyer broke the news that The Flash is close to being green lit, and that Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and a cryptic Mad Magazine movie aren’t far behind.
