Spike Jonze and Arcade Fire present “Scenes From the Suburbs”
Spike Jonze is one of the most talented and intriguing directors working today. His collaborations with Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich and Adaptation) are superb cinematic experiments, reaching for the absurd while still trying to engage you with the characters. His adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, is a poignant meditation on the nostalgia of childhood. All films show us what we know to be true of life. It is sometimes great, sometimes tragic, and most of the time strange.
For his next project Spike Jonze has chosen to forgo a feature film and instead collaborate with indie rock band Arcade Fire on a short film entitled, Scenes From the Suburbs. Jonze directed the music video for the title track of the bands album “The Suburbs”, which will be expanded for the film. Continue on to see this amazing music video and to find out more about Scenes From the Suburbs. Read the rest of this entry »
Your Poster is Cool | Captain America
Today Marvel released the first poster for Captain America and my initial thoughts are… it’s cool. Although he should let the film speak for itself, director Joe Johnston has been stating in interviews that he is excited for audiences to see what he has in store for the character. If this poster is a glimpse at the overall look and tone of the film, I am excited as well. Continue on for a look at the angst-ridden captain. Read the rest of this entry »
Filmdogs | One Year Old
On Monday the 31st of January, Filmdogsonline.com will officially be 1 Year Old.
It’s been a fun year for the Pack as we try and figure out exactly what Filmdogs is all about and how to expand and to do things that work and to see things start to not work. It’s all part of the process. More than anything, as a team, we’ve tried to figure out ways to overcome lulls in our content and enthusiasm and at the same time continue to find new ways to talk about film in general.
I definitely got something out my year at Filmdogs: some new friends. I’m glad to be able to share my Tuesday evenings with Mr. Will and Mr. Jason (and occasionally Ms. Mack) and hope to enjoy another great year of podcasting!
For the past month, I’ve been developing a new theme for the website and plan to launch it on our anniversary date. At that time, we’ll be sharing our 1 Year Anniversary with our readers and having some contests with prizes (woo hoo!) too.
Here’s to another year of film.
