Mr. Holt
Double Feature | The Host and Mother
In this edition of the Filmdogs double feature, Mr. Holt and myself will be recommending two films from an extremely supreme filmmaker. The man in question is Joon-ho Bong. Born in Seoul, South Korea, Bong is an expert in his field and only has four feature films under his belt. The two we will be recommending are the monster movie extravaganza The Host, and the maternal revenge flick Mother.

Under the Radar/Score Your Week | Arlington Road
This is a column that will focus on little known films, directors, writers, and actors. The column does not exist to tell you what to watch, but to simply help raise interest in the great art and talent that goes unseen year by year.
And, since this is a combo article…
Every Monday here at Filmdogs, a member of the pack will be offering a recommendation for a soundtrack to help you speed up those never ending work days and (if possible) inspire you.
Arlington Road was directed by Mark Pellington (The Mothman Prophecies) from a screenplay by Ehren Kruger (The Ring) and it’s a sadly overlooked gem from way back in ’99. It stars Jeff Bridges, Tim Robbins, and Joan Cusack.

Paranoia strikes deep.
Trailer Exam | “The Loved Ones”
Just came across this interesting looking horror trailer from “down under”. For sensibly minded horror fans, like myself, this trailer says the feature will either be: 1.) complete crap or 2.) a welcome, sleeper surprise. I really, really hope it’s the latter. It appears to be well made, based on the production and image quality shown. Color me interested.

A “reliable source” from website www.firstshowing.net has gotten it’s hands on a casting grid for Batman 3 indicating that The Riddler is the primary villain in the film. A casting grid is basically a chart for agents and studios to keep them abreast of what roles need to be cast in said film. The site is also claiming that the chart puts actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the top spot for the role. The casting could be feasible considering Levitt’s recent work with Nolan in Inception, and I’d be down with him playing the part as he’s a fantastic young actor. However, I’m still holding out hope that Nolan and his brother, Batman 3 screenwriter Jonathan Nolan, will go with a villain we haven’t seen before. This would be more in line with every statement all the creators have made regarding the 3rd film in the series. Read the rest of this entry »
