Scene Stealer | “Ocean’s Eleven” Planning the Score
While my cinematic heart was being filled with the glory that was Inception last night (expect a review after a second viewing) it was pointed out to me by Ms. Mack that at times she felt like she were watching Ocean’s Eleven. Which makes sense given that Inception is basically a heist film at it’s core. This feeling was especially prevalent when Cobb’s (Leonardo DiCaprio’s character) crew were planning their score. Bad Title, Good Movie | A Conversational Review of “Knight and Day” with Ms. Mack and Mr. Will
Mr. Will: So what did you think?
Ms. Mack: I liked it. The end. Do I need to say more than that?
Mr. Will: I think that would be good yes.
Ms. Mack: Okay…I thought it was funny. I think that Tom Cruise is a natural comedian. He looks like he’s having fun and he transitions from the funny guy to the Mission Impossible action guy pretty seamlessly. And when those two overlap it’s even better.
Mr. Will: I liked it too. I love Tom Cruise unapologetically and I think him and Cameron Diaz had good chemistry together.

A+ Action: A Review of “The A-Team”
My first impression of “The A-Team”, before it was even released, was that this was a movie made for chicks…that happened to include explosions. I mean, come on- Liam Neeson? Silver fox. Bradley Cooper? Body of a God. Patrick Wilson? Sexy bad guy. Even Sharlto Copley has a rugged handsomeness about him. This was a flick full of sexy men (including one who frequently- and thankfully- takes his shirt off), running around looking bad-ass and manly. Action flick? Yes. But one that was made to get the ladies excited, too.
In Defense of Sex: A Review of “Sex and the City 2″
Sex and the City 2 was, in a word, fun. Lavish, opulent, sparkly fun. Sometimes mid-life crises popped up, but they were easily taken care of so the fun could continue. Was it a perfect movie? Not hardly. But I got what I came for, and that’s all that matters.
Oh, What a Night- A review of “Date Night”
Date Night is a subtly funny movie with a few laugh out loud moments. Steve Carrell and Tina Fey are a comedic team for the masses, but are smart enough to pull in intelligent comedy lovers as well. This movie has the feel of a 1940s screwball comedy, but gets an update from some improvisational-style comedy, automatic weapons, and adult situations. I say “adult” because I don’t recall Cary Grant ever humping a stripper pole or telling Katharine Hepburn to “pop that coochie”. Am I the only one who is kind of sad that this never happened?
Caption Kangaroo: Kick-Ass Captions
Well hi there. My name’s Ms. Mack, and I like funny captions. Hence my column, “Caption Kangaroo”. The concept is simple- I will take screen shots from movies both good and bad and write funny things about said photos. Commence with the giggling.
So Bad It’s Good: The Day After Tomorrow
You know the movies. The ones that are so over-the-top, so ridiculous, so unintentionally hilarious. The bad acting, the bad script, the bad special effects. All around terrible films…that you LOVE to watch! They’re the movies that are so bad, yet oh-so-good. This column is a tribute to those movies we all hate to love. This is “So Bad It’s Good”.
Oh, Day After Tomorrow. How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Is it your terrible CGI wolves? Your terminally-ill child storyline? Or is it your rapidly spreading ice that can easily be stopped by closed doors? Tis all of the above, for your awfulness delights me on many levels. This movie is the epitome of craptastic disaster flicks. It has pathos, “comedy”, tornadoes in LA, family conflict, and a wise homeless man with a dog (who of course doesn’t die). Director and writer Roland Emmerich destroys the world with obvious glee, throwing tidal waves and snowstorms at his characters with a vengeance. All of this adds up to unintentional comedic gold and a very happy Ms. Mack.
