New Trailer | The Tourist

Director Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck follow up to the amazing German film The Lives of Others, premieres this December and is entitled The Tourist. The film stars Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, and Paul Bettany and here is the plot synopsis from IMDB:

Frank is an American tourist visiting Italy to mend a broken heart. Elise is an extraordinary woman who deliberately crosses his path. Against the breathtaking backdrop of Venice, Frank pursues a potential romance but soon finds himself the pursued as he and Elise are caught in a whirlwind of intrigue and danger.

The film is a has a little more mainstream appeal than I was expecting, but Depp and Jolie seem to have great chemistry and the Venice locations look spectacular. Plus, the filmmakers seem to be channeling Hitchcock more than they are, say, Knight and Day or Mr. and Mrs. Smith… and that is a good thing. The Tourist opens December 10. Check out the trailer below.

Michael Cera’s Favorite Films

Here at Filmdogs, we have a bit of a love hate relationship with Michael Cera. Although he has proven to filmgoers that he has talent, the jury still seems to be out on his cinematic range. I, for one, thought he was very good in Arrested Development, Superbad, and Youth and Revolt, while also acknowledging that he was completely underwhelming and unfunny in both Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist and Year One. That said, one thing that Filmdogs definitely agrees on is that Cera brought his “A” game and more to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Well, now we can get a look at some of the films that inspire Michael Cera, and I must say he has good taste. Intervals of Awesome originally posted the list which features some Kurosawa, Scorsese, and Anderson (Wes and P.T.). Continue on to check out the list.

Scene Stealer I “The Bourne Identity” Bourne vs. Castel

This weekend Angelina Jolie dodged government officials as CIA officer Evelyn Salt in Phillip Noyce‘s newest film Salt. Although I have yet to see the film, it got my cinematic wheels turning trying to figure out my favorite spy movie. De Palma‘s Mission Impossible? Hitchcock‘s Topaz? Noyce‘s Patriot Games? There are plenty of films to choose from; some dark and brooding and others fun and action packed. For my money the spy genre is at it’s best with Doug Liman and Paul Greengrass‘s memory deprived action hero, Jason Bourne. Read the rest of this entry »
