Cops on the Edge…of Boredom | Review of “Brooklyn’s Finest”
Brooklyn’s Finest is the latest in a recent string of films about “cops on the edge” to try it’s hand at entertaining the masses. Remember Street Kings, Pride and Glory, or We Own the Night? Me neither, yet I still hope for the glory days of the 70s when films in this genre seemed fresh and unique. Well, it’s time I accepted the fact that those days are over. Especially after the great waste of cinematic talent that is Brooklyn’s Finest.
The film features the three most cliched cop storylines available to screenwriters:
1. Ethan Hawke is the cop on the take, simply trying to provide for his family.

Ahoy, C***suckers!
It was announced today that everyone’s favorite angry, cursing brothel owner Ian McShane is “in talks” to be the villain in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”. The fourth installment of the Disney series will follow the story of Jack Sparrow’s (Johnny Depp) search for the Fountain of Youth. McShane would play the famous pirate Blackbeard. Have to admit, I just got a little excited about this movie. One of the best parts of the second “Pirates” flick was Bill Nighy’s glee-filled scenery chewing as the tentacled Davy Jones. There’s no doubt that if Ian McShane gets his hands on the infamous Blackbeard, he’ll do a good amount of gnawing as well. But, if given the chance, he could also be quite an intimidating villain. McShane would join Depp and Penelope Cruz on this Rob Marshall-helmed “Pirates” ship.
Side note: Rob Marshall directing? Does that mean we may see a “Pirate’s Life for Me” song and dance number on the Black Pearl? Something to think about…
44 Inch Chest: The Misled Masterpeice
At first glace from the trailer, “44 Inch Chest” seems to be a cookie cutter, British, fast paced flick. Within the first minutes of viewing you will realize that it couldn’t be farther from your token Guy Ritchie movie. Penned by the duo that brought you “Sexy Beast,” the film delivers on every level. The clearly character driven piece delves into the heartbreak of Colin (Ray Winstone) who just learned of his wife’s infidelity. Read the rest of this entry »
