In the Spotlight/Under the Radar – Eric Bana

Bana and Saoirse Ronan in "Hanna"

Joe Wright’s Hanna seems to be the movie to see this weekend for several reasons, one of which is the criminally under-cast Australian actor Eric Bana. The chance to see him in what people are calling the best action sequence of 2011 has got my blood up, especially given the fact that Wright filmed it all in one long take. (His idea of rebelling against the Bourne shakycam syndrome) Having seen Bana in several action oriented roles in his decade long film career I’m sure he can handle anything that’s thrown at him. Yet, what makes him truly fascinating to watch as an actor is the way he balances this with a quiet sensitivity that sucks you into his character’s world. I’m primarily thinking of Steven Spielberg’s Munich (in which he was robbed of an Oscar nomination) but that’s ok because it led to his being the catalyst for the hit Judd Apatow movie Knocked Up

The Dark Tower to become Motion Picture Trilogy and Television Series

Stephen King‘s sci-fi, fantasy, western, horror, epic The Dark Tower series has finally found a cinematic shepherd in Universal and Ron Howard. The series (beloved by so many King fans) has been looking for a movie going lift off for some time. Lost creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof were attached at one point (they left after finding the project to be to vast) and were then followed by Imagine Entertainment partners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, along with writer/producer Akiva Goldsman. The team has recently announced what they have in store for the saga, and I must say it is beyond ambitious.

Geek Round Up | Red Letter Media’s review of Star Trek ’09

geek
Slang.
1. A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest.

2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.

3. A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

Red Letter Media‘s angry, sexually offensive, and Sci-fi obsessed character Mr. Plinkett is back with another epic film review for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Unlike his extremely negative and now famous reviews of the first two Star Wars prequel’s it’s mainly positive. His enjoyment of the movie doesn’t make the review any less entertaining though.
