A+ Action: A Review of “The A-Team”
My first impression of “The A-Team”, before it was even released, was that this was a movie made for chicks…that happened to include explosions. I mean, come on- Liam Neeson? Silver fox. Bradley Cooper? Body of a God. Patrick Wilson? Sexy bad guy. Even Sharlto Copley has a rugged handsomeness about him. This was a flick full of sexy men (including one who frequently- and thankfully- takes his shirt off), running around looking bad-ass and manly. Action flick? Yes. But one that was made to get the ladies excited, too.
Finally! Some explosions | Review of “The A Team”
It’s been a boring summer season. Not a single film I’ve seen stands out in my mind, Robin Hood anyone? For me it’s up to Christopher Nolan to save the summer with this thriller, Inception. So imagine my surprise when the first film to feel like a real blockbuster is based off everyone’s favorite cheesy 80s TV Show, The A Team.
Now, I never had high hopes for The A Team movie. I loved the show when I was 13, but remember next to nothing about the characters, save for Mr. T’s haircut. Yet, under the direction of Joe Carnahan the flick has a real sense of fun that never lets up for a minute. Read the rest of this entry »
Top Five Ridley Scott Films
With Ridley Scott’s newest film Robin Hood opening this weekend, I decided to create a personal top five list of his films. I believe that Ridley Scott is a brilliant filmmaker and an impressive world builder. His presence can always be felt in his films through his visual style and iconic imagery. He usually tackles complicated stories with deep themes and meanings. At times his films falter and some could argue that he has had three late decade slumps (1989 – Black Rain, 1996/97 – White Squall and G.I. Jane, 2006 – A Good Year). That said, Ridley Scott is immensely talented and will always execute his films with absolute perfection. Read the rest of this entry »
Sam Worthington again flies a mythical creature that only he can ride | Review of “Clash of the Titans”
Let me get one thing out of the way. I saw this film in 2D. Why? Because James Cameron told me too. Why would Cameron of all people do that? Well, Titans was shot in 2D, yet after Avatar studios saw the higher ticket prices of 3D as a way to make more money. So Clash of the Titans then underwent a rushed 3D conversion process that would normally take six months in just about eight weeks. I foresee this strategy backfiring on studios in the future as audiences will begin to tire of paying the extra money for 3D that’s anything less than Avatar. So save your extra five dollars for a footlong at Subway and see the movie in 2D. Read the rest of this entry »
