New Trailer | Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter

Clint Eastwood can usually be counted on for some great year end releases. Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, and Letters from Iwo Jima, are a good example of Eastwood’s great filmmaking talent of late. In my opinion he missed the mark with Changeling and Gran Torino, but both were still praised by critics and audiences alike. As a filmmaker he is constantly challenging himself and the audience to come up breathing after being engulfed in dark heavy material. I have been a fan of Eastwood the director for as long as I can remember, and often cite Play Misty for Me (his directorial debut) as a film that greatly impacted the way I watch movies. Well, Mr. Eastwood has a new film debuting this year entitled Hereafter and Apple has recently released the trailer. The film was written by Peter Morgan and Variety characterized the film as “a thriller in the vein of The Sixth Sense”. I will say that what is showcased in this trailer is not what I expected. This looks to be an epic ghost story and I am very intrigued. The film stars Matt Damon, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jay Mohr, Cecile de France, Lyndsey Marshal, and opens on October 22. Check out the trailer below and continue on to see the trailer for the aforementioned Play Misty for Me.

Scene Stealer I “The Bourne Identity” Bourne vs. Castel

This weekend Angelina Jolie dodged government officials as CIA officer Evelyn Salt in Phillip Noyce‘s newest film Salt. Although I have yet to see the film, it got my cinematic wheels turning trying to figure out my favorite spy movie. De Palma‘s Mission Impossible? Hitchcock‘s Topaz? Noyce‘s Patriot Games? There are plenty of films to choose from; some dark and brooding and others fun and action packed. For my money the spy genre is at it’s best with Doug Liman and Paul Greengrass‘s memory deprived action hero, Jason Bourne. Read the rest of this entry »

Scene Stealer | “Ocean’s Eleven” Planning the Score

Only part of the amazing cast for "Ocean's Eleven."

While my cinematic heart was being filled with the glory that was Inception last night (expect a review after a second viewing) it was pointed out to me by Ms. Mack that at times she felt like she were watching Ocean’s Eleven. Which makes sense given that Inception is basically a heist film at it’s core. This feeling was especially prevalent when Cobb’s (Leonardo DiCaprio’s character) crew were planning their score. Flim News Galore

There’s been a bunch of juicy film news over the past few days, here are some of the best stories.

One of Cruise's best characters.

Tom Cruise and Paramount are indeed working on a Les Grossman film. The popular fouled mouthed character from Tropic Thunder seems ripe for further exploration, but can it be stretched into a feature film? I hope so. Michael Bacall, writer of the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs. the World will pen the script. Co-Producer of the film Ben Stiller issued the following statement: Read the rest of this entry »

Damon Goes Sci-Fi | New Trailer for “The Adjustment Bureau”

Phillip K. Dick adaptation’s have had a long and mixed history with Hollywood ranging from great (Blade Runner) to terrible (Paycheck). Not to mention the dozens of others that fall somewhere in between. Well, now it seems Matt Damon is going to give Philip K. Dick a go as seen in this new trailer for the film The Adjustment Bureau. The flick is directed by first timer George Nolfi, a writer for The Bourne Ultimatum and Ocean’s Twelve.

Zoned Out | Review of “Green Zone”

All “Bourne 4″ jokes aside director Paul Greengrass and actor Matt Damon’s newest team up stands on it’s own. The material however, doesn’t. If a political thriller like Green Zone, profiling the reasons we were involved in the Iraq war had come out several years ago I would have been more intrigued. The fact of the matter is that any Iraq film with an overt message winds up only being mildly successful. Just ask the producers of Jarhead, In the Valley of Elah, and The Kingdom. Top 10 Matt Damon Performances

With Green Zone opening this weekend, I found it appropriate to profile the film’s star… Matt Damon. Matt Damon is an amazing actor who gets better with every role. I really do think he is one of the best actors (if not THE best) of his generation. He has played a wide variety of different characters, all the while bringing charisma and charm. He has been many things: an existential action star, a brilliant mind trapped in a thug’s body, a double crossing rat, a fat dopey whistle blower, a solider deciding who he fights next to are his brothers. He is all these things and so much more. Damon has taken us down an exciting road, and he isn’t stopping anytime soon. The following performances are my personal top 10. If I miss some of your favorites, please feel free to post them in the comments section. Read the rest of this entry »
