The Filmdogs Podcast: Episode 34 – The Lord of the Podcasts
The 34th Episode of The Filmdogs Podcast is here and it’s epic to say the least. First up is the News in which we tackle the latest casting announcements for The Hobbit, and casting rumors for the female leads in The Dark Knight Rises. In “Vs.” we continue to earn our geek cred as it’s an epic battle for best film in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Next, we discuss our favorite Up and Coming Directors in our “Featured Topic of the Week” and lastly we have a “One Liner of the Week” from Rian Johnson’s High School Noir, Brick. It’s an episode so powerful you may have to throw it in Mt. Doom.

Score Your Week | The Fountain

British composer Clint Mansell is best known for his work with director Darren Aronofsky. Particularly his main theme for Requiem or a Dream. However, it’s his darkly epic work on the director’s third film The Fountain that really made me take notice. Read the rest of this entry »
Across the Pond | United Kingdom’s “Moon”
Did you hear David Bowie’s son directed a Science Fiction movie? This was the question heard around this time last year as the Duncan Jones film “Moon” began to make it’s way around the festival circuit. We don’t see many quiet Sci-fi movies like “Moon” nowadays. Explosions have replaced ideas as trash like “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen” have continually shown us. Read the rest of this entry »
The BAFTAs or Oscars with an Accent
“The Hurt Locker” took home all the big prizes at this years BAFTAs, the British version of the Oscars. Kathryn Bigelow added another notch to her belt on her quest to become the first female director to win a Academy Award by taking the Best Director prize. The film also took home Best Film and Original Screenplay while “Avatar” was snubbed in all the major categories.
Now wether or not these awards are a good indicator of the Oscars remains to be seen, but Bigelow is looking more and more like a sure thing. Especially after winning Best Director at the Directors Guild the other day. Check out her acceptance speech below. Read the rest of this entry »
