Get Your Docs On | “Waking Sleeping Beauty’

Focusing on the Disney animation comeback of the late 80s an early 90s Waking Sleeping Beauty is a documentary that any fan of the studio will surly find fascinating. New Trailer | “Rango” starring Johnny Depp

The recent trend in animated movie trailers is to show an isolated scene from the movie, even if it has nothing to do with the actual plot. Sometimes said scene might not even make it in the final film at all. Take this preview for Universal’s upcoming Despicable Me which was so unfunny and uninformative that I became angry every time I was forced to see it in theaters.

Geek Round Up | Mini Marvel Movies and Dr. Strange coming soon?

geek
Slang.
1. A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest.

2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.

3. A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.

Short films are underrated and if Pixar has taught us anything its that shorts in front of features can be both profitable for studios and fun for audiences. Well, in an effort to expose movie-goers to lesser known characters of the now Disney owned Marvel universe the studio is planning to produce 10 minute films highlighting minor heroes. For a geek who doesn’t know much about the Marvel world I think is a great idea that doesn’t require much risk for the stuido. Read the rest of this entry »

Oscar Reviews: 2010 Animated Short Films

Which short will win this Golden Boy?

When I heard a local theater was playing the Oscar nominated animated shorts this morning I jumped at the chance to see these films. It’s nice to be able to have an opinion on this subject for once plus, I got to see a new Wallace and Gromit flick. Most of these movies play out as you would expect, yet the last film on the list is missed opportunity at greatness. Frustrating to say the least.

Here are my thoughts on the this years Oscar nominated animated short films. Read the rest of this entry »

Give the Oscar to a Cartoon: Oscar Review of “UP”

The first two times I sat down to watch UP I kept getting interrupted by this and that, not getting a good feel for the film as a whole. I just turned off the PS3 after watching it all the way through, and I’ll be at a loss if it doesn’t get best picture this year. Welling up during a cartoon is an extremely rare occasion for me, but it happened almost three times during UP. This isn’t to say if a film makes you cry that it deserves an Oscar, but there’s a certain amount of undeniable brilliance that shines through with this Pixar masterpiece.
