Geek Round Up | Red Letter Media’s review of Star Trek ’09
geek
Slang.
1. A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest.
2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
3. A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.
Red Letter Media‘s angry, sexually offensive, and Sci-fi obsessed character Mr. Plinkett is back with another epic film review for J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek. Unlike his extremely negative and now famous reviews of the first two Star Wars prequel’s it’s mainly positive. His enjoyment of the movie doesn’t make the review any less entertaining though.

Geek Round Up is a Filmdogs column celebrating the best geeky filmic news. Basically anything that incites us geeks to push our glasses up the bridge of our nose, and lean closer to our computer screens with excitement. So, let’s do just that.
For those who have had their childhoods destroyed by George Lucas and his ghastly Star Wars Prequels there is no greater champion than Mike Stoklasa aka Redlettermedia aka Mr. Plinkett. Who is this man from Milwaukee and what has he done to garner such attention? Well, a few months ago he released an epic film review for Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace that over the course of seven ten minute YouTube videos brought to light all the reasons why the movie didn’t work. The monotone narration of the sociopathic character Mr. Plinkett sarcastically lampoons the film, while at the same time helping those abused fans like myself get over the disappointment of the Prequels. The review was revolutionary in the world of film criticism for being both cathartic, and more entertaining than the film itself. Well now Redletttermedia is back with a nine part review of Star Wars: Episode 2 – Attack of the Clones and it is glorious. It may be the best sequel since The Empire Strikes Back. NO EXCUSES – “Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen”

Enter: Vilos Cohaagen
In response to RedLetterMedia’s Avatar review, I wanted to point out some of the greatest “over-the-top” villains in movie history that make Stephen Lang’s Quaritch (in Avatar) seem tame in comparison.
Today we’re going to visit Total Recall’s Vilos Cohaagen. Check out the video below to get yourself familiar with this charming individual.

A Red Letter Day for Avatar
In the next few days Filmdogs Co-Editor Mr. Edens will be posting a piece defending one of our favorite movies of 2009, Avatar. As with any hugely successful film like James Cameron’s recent hit a large backlash has sprung up. Well, in the case of Avatar the backlash started from the day the project was announced, but thats not the point. Avatar is an easy target. Virtually everyone who sees it can pick apart its classic story or take something away from it’s “political message” they don’t agree with. Negative opinions of a movie like this are always going to exist, yet they don’t have to ruin what is a masterfully entertaining film.
