In “Vs.” we continue to earn our geek cred as it’s an epic battle for best film in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Next, we discuss our favorite Up and Coming Directors in our “Featured Topic of the Week” and lastly we have a “One Liner of the Week” from Rian Johnson’s High School Noir, Brick. It’s an episode so powerful you may have to throw it in Mt. Doom.

Your Poster Is Cool | Never Let Me Go

Mark Romanek’s adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s acclaimed novel Never Let Me Go opens in limited release on September 15th, and judging from the film’s trailer Romanek seems to have crafted a very unique dramatic film. Fox Searchlight has recently released three character posters for the film, and although they are merely the actors faces there is something very haunting and poetic about them. Never Let Me Go stars Carey Mulligan (An Education, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps), Andrew Garfield (The Social Network, Spider-Man Reboot), Keira Knightley (Pride and Prejudice, The Duchess), and is directed by Mark Romanek (One Hour Photo). As we discussed on the latest episode of the podcast the choices for the new Peter Parker in the Marc Webb directed Spider-man reboot have been less than interesting. It seems as if the studio was aiming to excite the least amount of people possible with picks like Jamie Bell, Anton Yelchin, Aaron Johnson, Logan Lerman and others. Geek Round Up is a new Filmdogs column celebrating the best geeky filmic news. Basically anything that incites us geeks to push our glasses up the bridge of our nose, and lean closer to our computer screens with excitement. So, let’s do just that.
