Agent Mulder Was His Idea! | Review of Paul
As I sat down for Paul, I begin to think about the niche sub-genre of film geek road movies. Fanboys, Kyle Newman’s 2008 tribute to all things located in a galaxy far away came to mind. Kevin Smith’s übergeek comedy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and (a film I have not seen, but Mr. Will has) Free Enterprise both fit nicely into this category. Then I started thinking about where those movies fail. Is it the enclosed nature of the stories? After all, you do have to be familiar with (if not a full blown fan) of geek culture as pertaining to film. Is it the talent involved? Jay and Silent Bob was loaded with stars in roles, but they only seemed to have taken the job to cut up. So my hopes were high for Paul. A broader take on this type of material couldn’t hurt, and the film is directed by Greg Mottola (Adventureland, a recent favorite of mine) and stars two of the funniest men around, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. The Filmdogs Podcast: Episode 34 – The Lord of the Podcasts

Hilarious Video | The Michael Cera School of Acting
Here at Filmdogs we have a love, and mostly hate relationship with actor Michael Cera. For me some of this bad mojo went away after Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but the pains of Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist still haunt me to this day. Why the frustration with this successful young actor? Well, seeing him constantly play similar characters often comes across as if he’s not trying. Which can be extremely annoying to anyone wanting to break into the film industry.

Michael Cera’s Favorite Films
Here at Filmdogs, we have a bit of a love hate relationship with Michael Cera. Although he has proven to filmgoers that he has talent, the jury still seems to be out on his cinematic range. I, for one, thought he was very good in Arrested Development, Superbad, and Youth and Revolt, while also acknowledging that he was completely underwhelming and unfunny in both Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist and Year One. That said, one thing that Filmdogs definitely agrees on is that Cera brought his “A” game and more to Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Well, now we can get a look at some of the films that inspire Michael Cera, and I must say he has good taste. The Filmdogs Podcast: In the Lounge with W, J, and J

The Funny Watchmen | Review: “Kick-Ass”
The fanboy community had been buzzing for months in anticipation for Matthew Vaughn’s adaptation of comic god Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass. The film looked to be a violent and harshly funny take on the superhero genre. Something that could be a welcome release from the typical comic book fare we’ve been getting in theaters lately.
