Exclusive: Zach Synder’s “Superman: Man of Steel” to shoot in Chicago?
Is Christopher Nolan’s Gotham the new Metropolis? It sounds that way according to my source close to the Chicago film scene, who’s hearing rumblings that Superman: Man of Steel could shoot there this summer. If this rumor turns out to be true it should be no surprise as Nolan, who’s a producer on the Synder’s reboot, has had great experiences filming the first two installments of his Batman trilogy in the Windy City.
Nolan’s next directorial effort The Dark Knight Rises seems to be branching out from Chicago to film in locations like Pittsburgh, New York, L.A., the UK, with even rumors of Romania and India popping up. This could give a little more weight to the rumor, as the streets of Chicago could be Bat-free this go-around. More on this as it develops.
The Dark Knight | Bank Robbery Prologue
It’s Valentines Day and if you believe in love at first sight then love at first listen shouldn’t be too much of a stretch. It’s truly amazing the impression the first few seconds of a film can leave you with. Just take my previous Batman related Score Your Week as an example. I’ll never forget seeing The Dark Knight in theaters for the first time. It ranks up there with the Star Wars Prequels and Lord of the Rings on my most anticipated films list easily. So, as I sat waiting for the picture to roll I couldn’t help but wonder how it would begin, even if the IMAX prologue had already been released to promote the movie.

Score Your Week | Batman “Theme”
After reading a seemingly bogus plot summary for the 3rd film in Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises this morning my thoughts were aflutter with The Caped Crusader. Tim Burton’s 1989 movie Batman was the 2nd film I ever remember seeing, after that summer’s earlier Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I was four years old, but I still remember vividly the opening of the picture like it were yesterday. The camera pans over a sharp and foreboding structure as the music of Burton’s frequent collaborator, composer Danny Elfman kicks in…

Thoughts on the Alien Prequel
So, I typically follow any and all Alien (and to a lesser extent, Predator) news. That said, there is an Alien prequel (or maybe 2) on the way. Ridley Scott is slated to direct. Proceed.
Geek Round Up| The Riddler in Batman 3, Thor and Captain America Posters, and Cult Art
A “reliable source” from website www.firstshowing.net has gotten it’s hands on a casting grid for Batman 3 indicating that The Riddler is the primary villain in the film. A casting grid is basically a chart for agents and studios to keep them abreast of what roles need to be cast in said film. The site is also claiming that the chart puts actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the top spot for the role. The casting could be feasible considering Levitt’s recent work with Nolan in Inception, and I’d be down with him playing the part as he’s a fantastic young actor. However, I’m still holding out hope that Nolan and his brother, Batman 3 screenwriter Jonathan Nolan, will go with a villain we haven’t seen before. This would be more in line with every statement all the creators have made regarding the 3rd film in the series. Read the rest of this entry »
Scene Stealer | The Dark Knight – Interrogation Scene
Scene Stealer is new column that will be bringing you a classic, iconic, or just plain awesome movie scene as often as possible. Since Christoper Nolan’s much anticipated film Inception is released this Friday I figured his filmography would be a good place to start. However, most of the iconic scenes in Nolan’s pictures involve heavy spoilers due the plot twists in those stories. So, I had somewhat of a hard time picking today’s first showcase.
The natural solution was as clear as day in the end though. While Memento may be Nolan’s most individual work The Dark Knight is his most successful. Not only because of the classic characters, but the pathos in which they were written, preformed, and directed. Therefore, what scene in the film is the both the centerpiece of the story and the culmination of both Batman and The Joker’s ideals? The Interrogation Scene. Read the rest of this entry »
The Stream | Vol. 3
The Stream is a new column that acts a venue for Filmdogs writers to post shorter reviews of movies they have watched on streaming video services such as Netflix, Hulu, or even YouTube. Let’s get started.
Black Dynamite
Where do I begin with Black Dynamite? It’s a modern update of a classic Blaxploitation film, except it’s still set in the 70s. It’s also really funny, but it’s not a spoof. The movie stars martial artist Michael Jai White (Spawn, The Dark Knight) as the title character, Black Dynamite, a guy who makes Shaft look like Urkle. The Plot? Well, it’s weird. However, it starts simply enough with Black Dynamite bustin heads in search of his brotha’s killer. He kills tons of thugs and sleeps with all the women. Plus, there is some great Kung Fu on display. What more could you want?

Geek Round Up | Mini Marvel Movies and Dr. Strange coming soon?
geek
Slang.
1. A person with a devotion to something in a way that places him or her outside the mainstream. This could be due to the intensity, depth, or subject of their interest.
2. a peculiar or otherwise dislikable person, esp. one who is perceived to be overly intellectual.
3. A carnival performer who performs sensationally morbid or disgusting acts, as biting off the head of a live chicken.
Short films are underrated and if Pixar has taught us anything its that shorts in front of features can be both profitable for studios and fun for audiences. Well, in an effort to expose movie-goers to lesser known characters of the now Disney owned Marvel universe the studio is planning to produce 10 minute films highlighting minor heroes. For a geek who doesn’t know much about the Marvel world I think is a great idea that doesn’t require much risk for the stuido. Read the rest of this entry »

When Nolan speaks we listen.
The official title for Batman 3 is The Dark Knight Rises, and if that’s not enough to get your gears turning Director Christopher Nolan also revealed in the interview with Geoff Boucher at Hero Complex that The Riddler WON’T be the main villain in the film. This is as we know a huge amount of information coming from the notoriously secretive director, and may be biggest news surrounding the film we receive in a while.
As for the title itself I was personally hoping for Legends of the Dark Knight, but The Dark Knight Rises implies even more that the film is the final installment in the trilogy, and that Batman/Bruce Wayne will “rise” above the grim circumstances he found himself at in the end of The Dark Knight. What situation and/or character will help him overcome this in Rises? Could it be the new female lead they have started casting? The comic basis for The Dark Knight was The Long Halloween, could it’s follow up Dark Victory featuring a young Robin character help Bruce overcome his darkness? Or could simply defeating a new villain possibly played by the recently cast Tom Hardy serve the same purpose? One things for sure, it’s a great time to be a Batman fan. Thanks again Mr. Nolan.
