A “reliable source” from website www.firstshowing.net has gotten it’s hands on a casting grid for Batman 3 indicating that The Riddler is the primary villain in the film. A casting grid is basically a chart for agents and studios to keep them abreast of what roles need to be cast in said film. The site is also claiming that the chart puts actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the top spot for the role. The casting could be feasible considering Levitt’s recent work with Nolan in Inception, and I’d be down with him playing the part as he’s a fantastic young actor. However, I’m still holding out hope that Nolan and his brother, Batman 3 screenwriter Jonathan Nolan, will go with a villain we haven’t seen before. This would be more in line with every statement all the creators have made regarding the 3rd film in the series. (more…)

Christian Bale and Heath Ledger in 2008's "The Dark Knight"
Scene Stealer is new column that will be bringing you a classic, iconic, or just plain awesome movie scene as often as possible. Since Christoper Nolan’s much anticipated film Inception is released this Friday I figured his filmography would be a good place to start. However, most of the iconic scenes in Nolan’s pictures involve heavy spoilers due the plot twists in those stories. So, I had somewhat of a hard time picking today’s first showcase.
The natural solution was as clear as day in the end though. While Memento may be Nolan’s most individual work The Dark Knight is his most successful. Not only because of the classic characters, but the pathos in which they were written, preformed, and directed. Therefore, what scene in the film is the both the centerpiece of the story and the culmination of both Batman and The Joker’s ideals? The Interrogation Scene. (more…)

The Stream is a new column that acts a venue for Filmdogs writers to post shorter reviews of movies they have watched on streaming video services such as Netflix, Hulu, or even YouTube. Let’s get started.
Black Dynamite

Where do I begin with Black Dynamite? It’s a modern update of a classic Blaxploitation film, except it’s still set in the 70s. It’s also really funny, but it’s not a spoof. The movie stars martial artist Michael Jai White (Spawn, The Dark Knight) as the title character, Black Dynamite, a guy who makes Shaft look like Urkle. The Plot? Well, it’s weird. However, it starts simply enough with Black Dynamite bustin heads in search of his brotha’s killer. He kills tons of thugs and sleeps with all the women. Plus, there is some great Kung Fu on display. What more could you want?

Short films are underrated and if Pixar has taught us anything its that shorts in front of features can be both profitable for studios and fun for audiences. Well, in an effort to expose movie-goers to lesser known characters of the now Disney owned Marvel universe the studio is planning to produce 10 minute films highlighting minor heroes. For a geek who doesn’t know much about the Marvel world I think is a great idea that doesn’t require much risk for the stuido. (more…)

In the past few weeks we’ve learned that Christoper Nolan is going to be following up his film “Inception” with a sequel to “The Dark Knight.” This news was incredibly exciting for the geek nation. Added to this was the equally mind melting info that Nolan would be “god-fathering” a new Superman film into production. (more…)

By now you may have heard that Director Christopher Nolan, the man behind “Batman Begins” and “The Dark Knight” is moving forward with Batman 3. Nolan recently came up with the story idea, the details of which can be expected to be kept under wraps for a long time. His brother Jonathan Nolan and David Goyer, writers of the previous films, have been charged with writing a first draft while Nolan finishes this summer’s “Inception.” A collective sigh of relief among the Batman faithful can be heard sweeping the nation.
Added to this awesomeness is the fact that Nolan will be a “Godfather” of development for a new Superman film. Does this mean we’ll see the two heroes team up at some point? Will Brandon Routh Return? Who will direct? All in know is my inner geek is very happy.
For a more in depth discussion of this amazing news tune into The Filmdogs Podcast later this week where we’ll do a whole lot of speculating. It should be alot of fun.

I’ll always look back on this past decade in film as the one in which I as a film junkie plunged head first into the world of cinema. In 2000 “Gladiator” became the blueprint to which all other films in the following decade would have to live up too. Granted I was 16 at the time and could only hope to live a life interesting as Maximus. (more…)
