The 34th Episode of The Filmdogs Podcast is here and it’s epic to say the least. First up is the News in which we tackle the latest casting announcements for The Hobbit, and casting rumors for the female leads in The Dark Knight Rises. In “Vs.” we continue to earn our geek cred as it’s an epic battle for best film in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Next, we discuss our favorite Up and Coming Directors in our “Featured Topic of the Week” and lastly we have a “One Liner of the Week” from Rian Johnson’s High School Noir, Brick. It’s an episode so powerful you may have to throw it in Mt. Doom.

There has been a lot said recently about Peter Jackson‘s adaptation of The Hobbit. Will it ever happen? Yes. Who will direct? Peter Jackson. Will it film in New Zealand? The world just came in and it is a … Yes. Mr. Will wrote an excellent article chronicling the trials the film has gone through and recommend clicking here to give it a read. Now we all get to wait for three or so years to see the film, but until then I highly recommend re watching The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Creating a vast world never looked easier as Peter Jackson dives head first into the epic fantasy trilogy. The Fellowship of the Ring really takes it’s time giving you the feel of the world and allowing you to meet the characters and understand their motives. There are plenty of great characters, but the most interesting and tragic figure of The Fellowship of the Ring (my opinion of course) is Boromir. Read the rest of this entry »
The Dark Tower to become Motion Picture Trilogy and Television Series
Stephen King‘s sci-fi, fantasy, western, horror, epic The Dark Tower series has finally found a cinematic shepherd in Universal and Ron Howard. The series (beloved by so many King fans) has been looking for a movie going lift off for some time. Lost creators J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof were attached at one point (they left after finding the project to be to vast) and were then followed by Imagine Entertainment partners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, along with writer/producer Akiva Goldsman. The team has recently announced what they have in store for the saga, and I must say it is beyond ambitious.
My top 50 films of the past decade

I’ll always look back on this past decade in film as the one in which I as a film junkie plunged head first into the world of cinema. In 2000 “Gladiator” became the blueprint to which all other films in the following decade would have to live up too. Granted I was 16 at the time and could only hope to live a life interesting as Maximus. Read the rest of this entry »
